About the studio

Uppercut Studio has a 10×10 m greenscreen corner, which is already well-lit for live and post-production keying. The greenscreen is about 4.2 m high, but due to the lights, the usable height is more like 3.8 m which is still plenty of room to work with.

The Lights

The stage has diffused ceiling lights (5600K) for overall lighting and several fixtures for specific scenes:

  • 2x 90×150 cm ~800W RGBW LED matrix panels (DIY)
  • 2x 70×50 cm 350W RGBW LED panels (GEM2X1FC)
  • 1x 600W LED COB (5600K) with fresnel (SUN)
  • 1x 300W Aputure Nova 300P (RGBW)
  • 2x Aputure 300c (5600K)

All fixtures are DMX-compatible and can be automated for any scene. Additional lighting equipment can be rented separately.

The Camera

We use the RED KOMODO 6K because why not? It has excellent resolution and great noise handling in darker environments. It also features a rolling shutter, which is essential for syncing with our camera tracking system. We use a DZO 18–35 mm lens (can be switched to your favorite) which gives an effective focal length of about 18.9–36.8 mm after sensor crop, and record in either 4K ProRes or 6K RED RAW—enough for most cases.

A Portkeys 7″ screen is available for monitoring live or composited views. We also use the Tilta Nucleus Nano II for focus control, along with additional equipment for compositing and tracking.

The camera setup is quite heavy for handheld use so be prepared!

What else?

  • Mechanical Crane for a camera
  • 6m Dolly track for camera stand or a crane
  • Teleprompter
  • 75″ TV for monitoring
  • Simple walkingpad (max 18km/h)
  • 10×10 m motorized truss
